Unable to change file type when renaming a file due to hidden extensions.
Cause:
The file has been renamed with its file extension hidden from view.
Solution:
Change the 'View' options to allow the file extensions to be seen, and then rename the file.
1) Open Windows Explorer.
2) In the left pane, double-click to open the folder containing the file(s) you want to rename.
3) If the file is in a deeper subfolder, repeat step 2) until the desired folder is open.
4) Select the 'View' menu and select 'Options...'. (The ' Options' dialog box appears.)
5) Click the 'View' tab.
6) Clear the 'Hide MS-DOS file extensions for file types that are registered' check box.

7) (Optional) Select the 'Show all files' radio button to display hidden files and their extensions.
8) Click 'OK'.
9) Select the 'View' menu and select 'Refresh' to update the file display.
10) Select the file you want to rename.
11) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Rename'.
12) Type the new name. (The existing name is replaced as you type.)
NOTE: To assign a file type, the new name must end in a period followed by the desired three-letter extension.
13) Press ENTER.
